Visiting France

France is the world’s number one tourist destination. It is the largest country in Europe and borders several waterways, including the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and the English Channel. With about 2,900 km of coastline, France has some of the best beaches in Europe and attracts millions of visitors every year.

There are so many different things to do in France; it is no wonder that people keep coming back year after year. Not only do they house more monuments than any other country, their diverse landscape provides some very beautiful rides through the country. They have quaint little towns throughout France and they offer excellent skiing on the Alps during the winter months. So whether you like the fast moving pace of Paris or a relaxing trip to the countryside, France is the destination for you.

Guide to France

The Eiffel Tower (tel: 0144 112 323) is probably the most famous attraction in France. It is located in the heart of Paris and offers visitors premier views of the city. Its unique structure draws millions of visitors every year. The Eiffel Tower is open every day from 9:30 – 11 for most of the year with extended hours of 9:30 to midnight from June 17 to August 28.

The royal palace, the Louvre (tel: 014025151) officially became a museum in 1793 and is a must see attraction when visiting Paris. This world famous art museum is home to some of the best known works of art like the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. The museum is open from 9 – 6, except Tuesdays. They offer free admission on the first Sunday of every month and on Bastille Day, July 14.

For the history buffs or those effected by World War II, a trip to the D-Day beaches in Normandy (tel: 0232 337 900) should not be missed. This hallowed ground attracts visitors all year long, who come to pay their respects to the men who did not make it home. The disastrous day of June 6, 1944 saw over 150,000 soldiers lose their lives. The site offers many memorials and war cemeteries.

The Roman Amphitheatre in Arles (tel: 0490493686) should not be missed. This Roman historical site dates back to the first century and gives visitors and chance to explore this 20,000 seat amphitheatre. During the summer months, both concerts and plays are still performed at the site as well as bullfighting.
